December 13th, 2016 - The night the BHL got put on the international hockey map ... and made history !!!
Just 50 seconds into his FHL debut Mike Parsons was granted a penalty shot when Cory Gardiner was penalized for "Goaltender Interference" ... He made the most of his opportunity ... a lil deke here, outwaited Les Cones goaltender Gregg Franco then lifted the back leg and wired it Top Shelf to make history !!! Parsons first game was something special and a night to remember as he posted a win, 2 assists and a GOAL !!!
What happened overnight though was unexpected and sensational for the BHL and FHL, as Josh Kretschmar caught the goal on video and posted it to Instagram. By morning the video had been viewed all over the world and had over 39,000 views and climbing ...
By noon, it had appeared on the American MSG network, Canada's TSN, and several hockey specific websites including Bardown, Gloves Off and the popular Hockey Memes. Heck they even showed the video during an intermission at the New York Rangers game. The publicity didn't stop there ... and what came next was simply unbelieveable ... The NHL Network was on the phone and wanted to run the video on their daily show "NHL NOW".
BHL president, Cam Green spent yesterday morning fielding emails and calls from several publications asking permission to screen the clip on thier various stations. "I've never seen anything like it" said Green. " The fact that our little thriving community has been thrust onto such a huge stage proves one thing ... what we are doing, what we pour our hearts into each week is working".
The buzz is all around now and the public is aware that the Backyard is here and bigger than ever. Like NHL big !!!
