The NZIHL Season is now in full swing and after having a bye week the West Auckland Admirals will take to the ice for thier first game of 2016 against their cross-town rivals the Botany Swarm in 2 match-ups this weekend !!!
What a treat for us in the BHL Community as both lineups are chocked full of BHLers on the ice and behind the scenes ...
The Admirals are captained by 2-Time BHL MVP and FHL Co-creator Justin Daigle (Toe Dragons). Daigle is accompanied on the blueline by... 2nd year NZIHL veteran Jono Pol (Les Phoques) and forward Samuel Pillidge (Les Pylones) returns yet again into the fold for the sea faring club. Behind the bench are former BHLer and the original "Dick" of the BHL Rodney Mcmillin, who serves as equipment manager, avid BHL Supporter Darren Blong serves as an assistant & Head Coach Csaba Kercso-Magos Sr made his BHL debut this past summer. This weekend's games will also see the in-game entertainment team of Cam Green, Aaron Somerville, Ryan Langford & Tyler Ireton make thier NZIHL debut as they entertain a packed house of hockey fans after 3 seasons of entertaining in the Backyard.
For the Swarm ... Entering thier NZIHL rookie seasons are 2015/2016 BHL Scoring Leader and Backyard Cup Champion Stephen Mawson (Les Castors) , Lewis Commons (Les Phoques), Johnnie Andrews-Nye (Iceholes) & BHL Career Points Leader Ritchie Hopkinson (Iceholes) . Former BHLer Maxim Kaluzhny (2014/15) also enters into his sophmore NZIHL campaign and the tandem of Michael Hopkinson (Iceholes) and Alain Giauque (BHL Reserve Keeper) share time in the Pipes for Botany.
The night will also be the debut of Rusty Anchor-Bottom, the West Auckland Admirals new mascot. Yet another BHLer who shall remain anonymous !!!
So get your butts in gear and head down to the Pirate Ship aka. Avondale Square Gardens and take in some Grade "A" New Zealand hockey this weekend !!!
