The Toe Dragons were dealt a tough blow this week when thier top draft choice, NZIHL prospect Mitchell English, was forced to pull out of the BHL for personal reasons. As a result he has been released and put on season ending waivers making him ineligible for the rest of the 2015/ 2016 campaign.
The Champions then went looking for a replacement and were able to wrangle in a familiar face. Enter former Toe Dragon and 1-time BHL Champion, Matt Fuscic. "Foose" as he is called has been chomping at the bit to get back into the BHL after passing on this years Draft to spend more family time at home with his young daughter. After spending 2 months on the BHL's now famous waitlist, playing Daddy and realizing that all of his Thursday nights completely suck after his daughter falls asleep. The time was right for a return to the backyard, and he was welcomed back by the BHL with open arms. Thursday, October 29th will mark his debut for the 2015/16 edition of the Toe Dragons vs. division Rivals the Iceholes (2-2-1).
In Fuscic, the Dragons will get a prolific sniper with NZIHL pedigree. Matt's career numbers speak for themselves, 27GP 41G 16A 57Pts 2.1 PPG% +18, in addition and most importantly he is a clutch performer. When the Dragons needed him most Matty put up 3 hat tricks and 12 goals in just 7 games during last years Backyard Cup playoffs en route to winning the Backyard Cup.
The Toe Dragons (2-2-1) have been a streaky team to start 2015/16 campaign. After losing thier opener in overtime to Les Pylones they have been riding an inconsistent tidal wave en route to becoming the first ever back to back BHL Champions. The addition of Fuscic and the anticipated return of captain Jordan Hills will hopefully give them the stability they need to fufill thier quest. Time will tell.
