The 2014 - 2015 of Les Pylones have had a dramatic season to say the least ...
After losing BHL top forward Zane Brown and having two of thier top draft choices injured before the opening faceoff of the season, the defending Champions spent a large portion of the season recruiting free agents while staying firmly planted in the league basement.
The signings of BHL rookies Dale Dalton, and Ali Safarazi proved top be temporary fixes that helped stop the bleeding but it was the addition of NZIHL forward Samuel Pilledge mid-season as well as the late season emergence of first year BHLer, inliner Sam Kay that has seen the red machine come alive.
After suffering an opening round overtime loss to Les Castors who dressed just five players and a goalie the champs looked destined for an early postseason exit. In thier third and final game of the opening round robin they were pitted in a rematch of the 2014 BHL Finals when they were up against Top Cheese who owned the season series 3-0. after falling down early the Pylons fired back with 4 goals in the third period en route to a 7-5 victory and advancing them to face the Seals in the Conference Finals.
The conference final was a seasaw battle with both teams alternating victories in each and every game. Last year's Playoff MVP Scott Henry has been remarkable and has lead they way for the redmachine since. After two rounds Henry is tops amoung all BHL playoff scorers with 10 goals and 15 points with linemate Kay just a point off the pace. Tony Simmis has begun to emerge as well after a slow start to the year. His spectacular 40 save performance in Game 5 was only the 2nd shutout recorded in BHL Playoffs history.
Les Pylones is the only team in the history of the Backyard Hockey League to have thier names inscribed on the Backyard Cup. A series win over the expansion Toe Dragons can help keep it that way. This final should be a good one. Game One gets underway Monday, March 2nd @ 8pm @ the Botany Forum.
